A "Legal assistance day” had
been conducted at the Penitentiary No. 2 of the Penitentiary Service
Citizens’ Labor Rights
Protection League conducted a "legal assistance day” at the Penitentiary No. 2
of the Penitentiary Service on October 20, 2012.
A group of lawyers were sent
to the Penitentiary No. 2 of the Penitentiary Service on the basis of several
complaints entered to the Citizens’ Labor Rights Protection League from the
Penitentiary. Both applicant prisoners and those applying after the
announcements given afterwards were provided with legal assistance and advice.
Legal assistance covered 46
prisoners in general. Legal assistances included the following directions:
• Preparing appeal to the European Court on Human Rights
(necessary documents had been collected and preparation process of appeals was started);
• Providing advice on grant of parole;
• Definition of disability and realization of pension
right;
• Extradition issues;
• Problems of family members (property, social
assistance, etc.);
• Other.
Traditionally, most of the
prisoners complained from problems related to grant of parole and it was
emphasized that courts cause obstacles to provision of this right.
It was decided to prepare the
appeal of the citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mr. Ruhi Mohsun to the
European Court on Human Rights.
The conducted activity is
funded within the Open Society Institute – Human Rights and Governance Grant
Program (Budapest).
