NPM Group conducted visit to penitentiary No. 9

The members of the NPM
group
conducted visit to the Penitentiary No. 9 of the Ministry of Justice
Penitentiary Service. The aim behind the
visit was to investigate the implementation of recommendations given
during the
previous visit conducted to the Penitentiary No. 9, as well as the
treatment of
inmates, imprisonment conditions and reception of inmates. It should be noted 217
inmates
are imprisoned in the Penitentiary. 10 of inmates are the persons with
disabilities, 5 are the foreigners. During the visit more than
30
inmates were interviewed in private, those persons didn’t complain
about the
treatment and imprisonment conditions. The existence of library,
gym
for arranging free time of inmates as well as building of new premises
were appreciated,
moreover, the visiting team were told new bathroom is being built as
the
existed one is old. In general the results of
the
visit were positively evaluated. The fact that there is only
one doctor causes anxiety. The administration of the facility was
recommended
adapt the sanitation facility to the number of inmates.The information of the
results
of the visit was addressed to the Minister of Justice.
