Sheki Penitentiary Complex was visited by the Commissioner as a National Preventive Mechanism and the members of National Preventive Group.
The aim of this visit was to monitor general custody conditions, treatment, and provision of the rights of the detained persons and to investigate applications and documentation in the detention facility.
In the course of the visit administration and staff of the facility were talked about the treatment of accused and arrested persons in the facility, custody conditions, nutrition, food provision, were investigated, the canteen, cells, bedrooms, as well as interrogation, trial, telephone rooms were monitored.
Received persons during the visit didn’t complain about treatment by the staff of the facility, their appeals were heard, legal consultations were given to them on the issues they raised, their documents were investigated, rights and the requirements of the relevant legislation was explained to them.
At the end of the visit, the administration of Sheki Penitentiary Complex was given necessary instructions in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Ensuring the Rights and Freedoms of persons detained in Places of Detention and Internally Disciplinary Rules for Temporary Detention Places.
The Ministry of Justice will be requested regarding the outcomes of the visit.
