Head and the member
of Ombudsman’s NPM group against torture Vugar Maharramli and Adil
Hajiyev paid
two day visit to Gobustan prison of the Ministry of Justice
Penitentiary
Service.
The representatives
of Ombudsman inspected security cells, punishment cell, meeting rooms,
sanitary-medical unit, production unit, kitchen, as well other units of
the
prison, conducted on spot investigation of inmates’ and their family
members’ appeals
addressed to the Commissioner.
During the visit the
NPM group members met with the chief, staff of the prison, and inmates.
The
inmates were interviewed in private, their detention conditions were
learnt.
Some inmates noted
they had been subjected to pressure of prison personnel, and complained
of the
detention conditions and the quality of food.
They also stressed their dissatisfaction about the medical
service.
E. Suleymanova urged
the Ministry of Justice and asked to eliminate the shortcomings
revealed during
the visit, take relevant measures and to inform Ombudsman about the
result.
